THE FOUR WEDDINGS





Sage Vishwamitra and Sage Vashishtha discussed the matter with King Dashratha when saw the two princesses beautiful, gentle and virtuous in nature, he agreed for Bharata’s and Shatrughna’s marriage with them. King Kusadhwaja was very happy to hear the news. He agreed to the marriage proposal at once. King Janaka’s younger daughter, Urmila was to marry Prince Lakshmana. There was rejoicing mood in Mithila. 

At the auspicious hour, the four princes of Ayodhya married the four beautiful princesses. Then the pleased parents blessed the newlywed couples. King Janaka and King Kusadhwaja presented their daughters with gifts to take to Ayodhya. King Dashratha donated cows to four lakh Brahmins. Each cow’s horns were planted in pure gold. These gifts were given as a sign of joy at the event and also because he knew that one gives in joy come back in manifold forms.
Then the royal wedding procession with the four royal couples departed for Ayodhya. All the people in Ayodhya were eagerly awaiting the arrival of their princes with their brides.
