Angada declared, “We have been patient and courageous all this time. Now we should not loose hope at any stage. We must declare which one of us can jump the longest to cover the distance from this seashore to land in lanka.”
Gaja reveald that he could jump ten yojans, Gavaksha could jump twenty and another monkey could accomplish thirty. Jambavan could jump ninety yojanas, but bLanka was hundred yojanas away. Angada could surely jump hundred yojanas to reach Lanka, but would be too tired to return back.
Jambavan saw Hanuman who was sitting quietly. He decided to encourage Hanumana to go to Lanka. He said to Hanumana, “O son of wind, you are fit in strength and valour to jump across the vast ocean to reach Lanka. You are adept in many feats. Your wisdom and strength has no equal. You must prove your might and intelligence now.”
Hanumana remained quiet. So, Jambavan continued, “Your mother was a goddess. Her name was Anjani. She was turned into a she monkey due to sage’s curse. Wind god fell in love with her. He blessed her that you would born to her equal in strength and valour to Wind God himself. As a young child, you had put the Sun in your mouth thinking it to be a fruit. When Indra hurled his Vajra to protect the sun from you, you fell down to earth. Your jaw was broken. Wind God was very angry and he stopped his movements. People could not breadth due to lack of air. Then all gods asked forgiveness from him. You were blessed by Brahma and Indra that no weopen would slay you or affect you. Go on, Anjaniputra.”
Hanumana was overwhelmed by the praise.Jambavan continued inspiring Hanumana, “your strength is unmatched. Yet, your modesty and devotion is your crowning glory. As a young fello, I had gone around the globe twenty one times. Now I feel you can do much more than me. You can save all of us. Only you can cross this ocean and reach Lanka. Arise, O great Hanumana, prossessor of great strength.”
